Why a Destination Wedding Might Be Your Perfect Choice

Your wedding day should be everything you ever dreamed it would be, including its location. If you’ve been on the fence about having a destination wedding, take Alysia and Blake’s advice and “JUST DO IT!!”  They decided to take the plunge last November and get married in Estes Park, Colorado. They told us about how fun it was to take a trip with their friends and family and make unforgettable memories! Here is the couple’s advice to you: “It may seem like it’d be stressful but with the help of Availed Events, especially Bethany, the whole process became stress-free.”

Alysia and Blake opted for a destination wedding because they wanted to get married in the mountains. Also, this allowed them to have a more intimate event than they would have had in Minnesota. One of their favorite parts about having a destination wedding was the extra time they had with their friends and family. A wedding is typically a day or two, but they were lucky enough to have a long weekend with their guests in a gorgeous location!

Alysia and Blake got married at the Black Canyon Inn in Estes Park, Colorado. The view from the venue was breathtaking and matched their vision perfectly. The venue met all of their requirements, from getting ready rooms to its modern look. Another selling point was its onsite cabins that had enough room for all of their guests.

They brought a piece of home to Colorado by adding personal details to the day. They had an in memory of table to include all of their loved ones in the celebration. The couple also had their puppy Lola on stir sticks and even gave her a signature drink. Finally, to bring a bit of Minnesota tradition to their wedding, they had a Piano Man ending to the night (IYKYK)!!

Another common worry with destination weddings is the logistics of it all: vendors, hair and makeup, and guest activities. Alysia and Blake used all local to Colorado vendors except for their destination photographer/videographer, who had shot at their venue before.

The couple named hair and makeup as their biggest challenge when planning the wedding because they only visited Colorado once before the event. The short time period gave little room for error when it came to booking trials, but they luckily only needed one for each!

Wedding guests were offered suggestions for activities and excursions in Colorado. They could hike or drive through the Rockies, visit the Stanley Hotel (that has a wine bar, whiskey bar, and a haunted tour!), and shop in downtown Estes Park.

While it is inevitable with a destination wedding that not everyone can travel, they managed this by giving everyone ample notice. Pro tip: Availed recommends giving notice a year in advance for optimal attendance!
